A very different Potsdamer Platz
In August that year I was briefly back in a very different Potsdamer Platz. This main crossroads of Berlin had become the site on which the world’s major architects and multinationals, in collusion with the city planners, were preparing to leave their marks. 
For the moment, though, it had become a place where tourists came to try to recapture something of that strange moment five years before. To help them, newly entrepreneurial Ossis lined up Russian military hats, Gorbachov Russian dolls and alleged bits of the Wall.
